Introductory Safety and Competence Courses

Certificated courses

Lee Leisure can now offer introductory Safety and competence courses for Clay, Game and rough Shooters.

Our experience tells us that a large number of shooters are introduced to the sport through a friend or a colleague, and have a limited knowledge of basic gun Safety and the law.

Our courses are designed for individuals, and the level of input is directed at their ability and experience within the sport. A practical assessment is made throughout the session/sessions; Information, advice and alternative techniques are offered to participants to help them through the course.

No written exam is undertaken, but you will be asked to fill in a multiple-choice questionnaire at the end of the course. Help will be given to any person with learning difficulties; this will be done in the strictest confidence.

New applicants for Shotgun certificates are ideal candidates for our introductory competence courses. The course covers all that is needed to get you started, to include safe gun handling and some relative aspects of the law. Advice on the purchase of guns and gun fit are also covered enabling the client to purchase their first gun with the confidence of knowing what is suitable for them.

At the end of the course the client will be issued a certificate of attendance, to show that they have under gone training in the handling and use of Shotguns, to include live firing.

Legal requirements

At Lee Leisure you do not have to be a Shotgun certificate holder to shoot at our ground, we hold a police permission to allow us to teach novice shooters. However we cannot allow anyone to shoot who has consumed alcohol or drugs prior to the event or is prohibited by law from holding a firearm, we would ask that the organiser makes this clear to all persons attending.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will clients be allowed to use our shooting facilities if they have consumed alcohol or drugs prior to arrival or whilst on our shooting ground. We would ask the organisers to check that all persons taking part in clay shooting events are not a prohibited person under the firearms act 1968-1997
